Sichuan Imperial Red Pepper

Contrary to it's name, the Sichuan red peppercorn actually comes from the the prickly ash tree. It's faintly citrusy flavour and distinct lip and tongue-tingling quality (easily familiar as an ingredient in Five Spice powder) is generally paired with chilis and to create the flavour profile known as málà and is essential to dishes like Dan Dan noodles and mapo tofu.
